Company Profile
Onalaska Animal Hospital
Company Overview
Onalaska Animal Hospital is a modern, 5,000-sq-ft veterinary practice serving the greater La Crosse–Onalaska community. The clinic offers comprehensive small animal care: wellness and preventive medicine, vaccinations, diagnostics (including in-house labs, digital radiology and ultrasound), dentistry, surgery (soft tissue, orthopedic and dental), dermatology, laser therapy, behavior consultation, grooming and end-of-life care. It also provides urgent care appointments to reduce wait times and collaborates with local humane organizations.
The facility reflects a Fear Free® approach: separate waiting rooms and hospital wards for dogs and cats, classical background music and pheromones to calm pets, and a zoned HVAC system to minimize noise and odors. A dedicated comfort room offers a tranquil, living-room-like space for clients facing difficult moments, with sensory elements (lighting, sound and scent) designed to foster peace.
As a private-owned clinic, Onalaska Animal Hospital combines progressive medicine with a relationship-centered, “concierge-level” client experience. Its mission is to provide timely, high-quality care through clear communication, collaboration and a supportive team culture. The practice recruits from regional veterinary technician programs, emphasizes mentorship and professional development, and seeks to create an inclusive environment where team members and clients feel valued. By blending modern technology with compassionate care, Onalaska Animal Hospital aims to be a trusted partner for pets and their families throughout the Coulee Region.
Company History
Onalaska Animal Hospital was established in 2022 to address a significant shortage of veterinary services in La Crosse County. Dr. Nicole Azene, who earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2005, and her husband saw local pet households grow by nearly 29% over three decades while the number of clinics remained unchanged, leading to long wait times for care. They built a 5,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art facility with digital radiology, digital dental x-rays, and an advanced surgery suite. The clinic opened in summer 2022 and was the first new veterinary hospital in La Crosse County in 30 years. Dr. Azene’s broad experience in private practice, shelter work, and federal service informs the hospital’s commitment to progressive medicine and compassionate care.
Benefits
