Bristol Humane Society

Company Overview

A Legacy of Compassion
Providing Low-Cost Essential Veterinary Care for Over 20 Years
This is how it all began…
Bristol Humane Society has provided Low-Cost Essential Veterinary Care for over 20 Years.

Founded in 1964 by Margaret B. Mitchell, the Bristol Humane Society has a long history of promoting animal well-being. Ms. Mitchell served as president of Bristol Humane Society for many years and left a portion of her estate to support the cause, which contributed to the opening of the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic in 2005, the first of its kind in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

We perform over 14,000 surgeries each year and expanded our services to include low-cost vaccination clinics in 2015 and essential wellness care in 2022.

We are excited that our expanded facility and parking lot will allow us to further increase our ability to offer accessible and low-cost veterinary care for our community’s dogs and cats.

This is us now…
Our current services include spay/neuter surgeries and wellness care, available Monday through Friday, to help control the pet population and keep animals healthier.

We further support the welfare of pets and their families by maintaining a free pet food and supplies pantry for those in need. All of these areas of support, combined with our future education center, make Bristol Humane Society a truly unique animal resource center and the only one of its kind in the region.

Company History

The Founding of Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic
In 1964, Margaret B. Mitchell co-founded the Bristol Humane Society where she served as president for many years. When she passed away in 2003 at the age of 102, she left a portion of her estate to benefit animal well-being. The Bristol Humane Society put that bequest towards the opening of the clinic in 2005. To honor Mitchell, the clinic was respectfully and rightfully named the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic.
