About the Role

Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant - Surgery to join our team.

In this role, you will support our surgical team by assisting with procedures, preparing patients, and maintaining a safe, efficient surgical environment. This is a great opportunity to build your skills in a specialty setting while working alongside highly trained veterinary professionals.

Role Responsibilities

• Assist with patient preparation for surgery, including restraint and pre-operative setup

• Support veterinarians and technicians during surgical procedures

• Prepare and maintain surgical suites, instruments, and equipment

• Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and organization of surgical tools

• Assist with anesthesia setup and preparation under the direction of licensed staff

• Provide support during pre- and post-operative care as directed by veterinary technicians or veterinarians

• Perform basic diagnostic procedures such as radiographs and lab sample collection

• Maintain accurate patient records and treatment logs

• Communicate effectively with team members to ensure continuity of care

Experience & Skills Requirements

• Prior experience in a veterinary assistant or technician role preferred (surgical experience a plus)

• Basic knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and patient care

• Familiarity with surgical preparation and sterile technique preferred

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
