- Lead Veterinary Technician
Description
We are seeking an experienced, highly organized FT Lead Veterinary Technician to oversee medical operations on a mobile feline spay/neuter clinic. This role requires strong technical skills, excellent surgical support capabilities, and the ability to lead a small team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
The Lead Technician plays a critical role in ensuring efficient workflow, maintaining high standards of patient care, and supporting the veterinarian in performing high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgery.

Clinical & Surgical Duties
- Induce, monitor, and recover feline patients for spay/neuter surgeries
- Place endotracheal tubes
- Accurately calculate and prepare anesthetic drugs based off SOPs
- Monitor anesthesia and respond and communicate changes
- Maintain accurate and compliant controlled drug logs
- Provide surgical assistance including instrument handling and sterile technique
- Ensure smooth patient flow through intake, surgery, and recovery
- Identify and appropriately escalate medical concerns
- Use low stress handling techniques where appropriate
Operational Leadership
- Lead daily medical workflow on the mobile unit
- Coordinate task assignments among technicians and assistants
- Troubleshoot equipment and workflow challenges in real time
- Maintain inventory and ensure adequate supply levels
- Ensure compliance with medical protocols, safety standards, and DEA requirements
- Assist in training and mentoring support staff
- Maintain a calm, professional environment during high-volume clinic days
Quality & Compliance
- Follow established SOPs consistently
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ensure proper drug handling and documentation
- Support continuous improvement of protocols and workflow efficiency
- Assist with quality assurance initiatives
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Set the standard for professionalism, patient care, and client service
- Cultivate an engaging work environment and maintain a strong, positive team culture
- Assist with the interview process for new hires and support onboarding of new team members
- Mentor and support technicians in the development of their clinical skills by providing hands-on learning opportunities and assisting in their ongoing educational development and training.
- Resolve conflicts professionally and respectfully
- Collaborate with hospital management and supervisory teams to refine and implement clinic protocols and workflow improvements that support efficient operations and program growth.
Essential Clinical Skills
- Strong understanding of Anesthetic protocols
- Accurately calculate medication dosages and fluid boluses
- Perform anesthetic induction to include Feline endotracheal intubation
- IV catheter placement and anesthetic emergency management
- Support high-volume, high-quality (HQHV) spay/neuter procedures
- Maintain strict adherence to controlled substance protocols
- Monitor anesthesia and guide anesthesia workflow
- Provide thorough post-anesthetic patient care and recovery monitoring
- Utilize feline fear-free handling techniques whenever possible

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- 5+ years clinical veterinary technician experience
- Strong anesthesia skills, including induction and monitoring
- Ability to safely intubate cats
- Experience supporting surgery
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and work comfortably in a compact mobile clinic setting
- Commitment to animal welfare and population control
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a team effectively
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
- CVT/LVT/RVT credential
- Experience in high-volume spay/neuter or shelter setting
- Experience in a leadership or senior technician roles
- Familiarity with controlled substance logs and DEA compliance
- Experience training or mentoring staff
- Comfort working in a non-traditional clinical setting
- Strong problem-solving ability and adaptability
